The Hunter is the primary MRAP vehicle used by the Altis Police Service on the island of Altis. It is also used by Rebels via the Viper license.
Overview
The Hunters on Altis remain part of a fleet of military surplus vehicles purchased by the Altis Police Service in response to increasing gun crime on island, the versatility of the Hunter has proven effective in a variety of specialised and frontline policing roles. The Viper organisation began purchasing them later on, distributing them to license holders for a price.
- Roles:
- Troop transport
- Reconnaissance
Design
The Hunter is a four-wheel drive, all-terrain Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle manufactured by US arms factories to provide troops with enhanced protection. The armoured hull can withstand small arms fire, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and 40mm Grenades. The V-Shaped design of the hull that deflects blasts away from the chassis and crew compartments, however this raises the centre of mass of the Hunter meaning the vehicle is susceptible to rolling when cornering at high speed.
Features
The driver sits in the front left seat, with two small armoured front windows providing a narrow view of the area in front of the vehicle (at the cost of reduced visibility). The front-right and rear seats can hold anywhere from one to three passengers, of which none have any control over any of the vehicle.
Notable Traits
Protection-wise, the Hunter is equal to, if not better, than its CSAT counterpart due to the driver not being exposed by a large windscreen. It is designed to be resistant against small arms fire ranging from 7.62 mm and up to 12.7 mm.
Unlike its softer-skinned AAF counterpart, it is well armoured enough to be able protect its passengers from medium to large explosives (like 40 mm grenades or demolition charges) and land mines/Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). This is because the Hunter uses a V-shaped hull that is designed to deflect the blast away from vital components in the chassis.
Mobility
In terms of mobility, the Hunter has decent acceleration and handling on both paved roads and while off-road. However, it cannot match the Ifrit when it comes to speed due to being much heavier, nor the manoeuvrability or amphibious capability of the Strider.
Crew Capacity
The Hunter always has a seating capacity of four personnel; the driver and up to three passengers.
Upgrades
Upgrades can be bought from the Mod Shop. The Hunter supports:
- Up to level 1 Tyre Upgrades
- Up to level 1 Hull Upgrades
- Up to level 2 Engine Upgrades
- Up to level 3 Fuel Upgrades
- Up to level 3 Lock Upgrades
- Can install a GPS tracker
Ownership
This vehicle is unable to be purchased by the public, but they are available to holders of the Viper license. If you bring a stolen hunter, including police hunters to the scrap dealer they can be stolen.
Variants
Police
- Armed Response Hunter
- National Crime Agency (NCA) Hunter
- Command Hunter
Viper
- Viper Olive Hunter
- Viper Golden Hunter
Trivia
- The Hunter is based on the real-world "M-ATV" MRAP designed by the Oshkosh Corporation.
- The Hunter is able to survive the initial blast of a small/medium-sized IED but will blow up after a short time. Meanwhile, the initial blast of larger IEDs will instantly destroy it. Real-life MRAPs are designed to survive an IED blast and protect the crew from within regardless of how powerful the IED is.
- The Hunter has animated doors that open can be interacted with if you are in the drivers seat or have the keys to the vehicle.
