GTA:Mechanic

Mechanic Job Location
Insurance Impound

A Mechanic is one of the few jobs you can become to make some money. You can go ahead and collect vehicles and take them to the impound yard. Or you can respond to requests and messages to assist civilians in need of a small tire change or someone in need of a tow back to a local garage.

To become a Mechanic you will be required to own a Mechanic/Impound Licence, this can be purchased from City Hall. Once you have the License you can head to the Civilian Insurance Impound lot located on Adam Apples Boulevard (this location was moved from Innocence Boulevard in June 2022).

Going On Duty and Benefits

Once you have the License you need to head into the insurance impound, enter the building and approach the NPC worker behind the desk. Using the eye interaction (ALT) you have the option to 'Discuss Mechanic Job'. Here you will have the option to Sign On Duty. Once you are on duty you will gain access to the Mechanic Abilities.

You will now be able to rent a Flatbed from the NPC you signed on with (details below) from the NPC. Look out for instructions on how to return this in the top-right hand corner.

NPC Jobs

As a Mechanic you can start by collecting NPC vehicles flagged for impound, which will start your Mechanic career (at Level 0). You can start one of these jobs in same place you clocked in. When you become a Level 1 mechanic you can start an NPC from inside the Flatbed truck you have been using, rather than having to park it and run inside the building each time. To do this press CAPS > Interactions > Mechanic Job List > Start NPC Job. The more jobs you complete, the higher your mechanic level will become. When you start a job it's location will appear on the map. Try to get the rear of the truck as close to the car as possible. To load a vehicle you should ensure your flatbed truck is parked close to it, get out of your truck and stand next to the vehicle you are looking to recover. Look at the vehicle you're looking to recover with the eye interaction (ALT) and go to Mechanical Options. If a flatbed is nearby, you should see the option to Attach/Detach [Vehicle] (eg a taxi would show 'Attach/Detach Taxi'). Completing this should load the vehicle onto the flatbed truck.

Once loaded, return to the Insurance Impound on Adam Apples Boulevard and park the truck within the grounds of the civilian impound area (try not to block others) and leave space behind your truck. Now, following the same method you loaded the vehicle, use eye interaction on the loaded car again to unload it from the truck. You should now be able to use the eye interaction once again to impound the vehicle Once complete you will receive payment and an increase to your mechanic skill. You can repeat this job by going back inside and repeating the process with the NPC behind the desk (or, when you are Level 1 you can do it from inside the truck itself as mentioned in the above paragraph).

Dispatch Requests

When on duty as a mechanic, you will begin to receive dispatches sent through the Mechanic Helpline. Press O to open the dispatch menu (while stationary, for your own safety as you won't have control of your car while it's open) and click the dispatch you wish to attend. You can right click it to set the GPS or call the person who requested the dispatch. Doing CAPS > Interactions > Mechanic Job List will also reveal the jobs available to you and you can click these to accept them (for garage requests and police/faction impounds).

Custom Player Requests

Custom Player requests are dispatches made through the mobile phone. You will see the message they sent you and that players mobile phone number. Following the above instructions you can arrive at the location set by the GPS once you have clicked on the dispatch. The request here could be anything from someone needing a repair, refuel, their vehicle being transported to anything else they might want - hopefully their message was clear! When you arrive you'll need to figure out the issue and go from there. There is no requirement to recover cars back to the insurance impound and you do not get routinely paid for attending these dispatches (nor is there an increase in your mechanic skill). However you can negotiate payment within roleplay with the other player. Bare in mind the mechanic role can be a competitive business, so don't expect to be the only mechanic heading to the dispatch!

It's worth noting that if you wish to load a car onto a flatbed and it is not an NPC job, transfer request or police/faction impound request then you need to have the keys for the car given to you by the other player to load it.

Garage/Parking Transfers

Players who wish to move a car from one parking location to another can request your help. Players do this through the CarFinderz app on their phone, where they select where the vehicle should be moved to (the options are public parking locations across the map). This will generate a dispatch that shows you it's location (which is the GPS point), what vehicle it is and where it is to be taken. Go to the location with a flatbed and the vehicle should be parked at that location. Repeat the same as you would with NPC jobs, loading the vehicle onto the flatbed truck. You can then follow the GPS to the location for which the vehicle needs taking to. Unload it here and park the vehicle using the eye interact (ALT) and that will complete the job. You will be paid and the owner notified of the job completion.

Police/Faction Impounds

The police and some other factions have the ability to flag certain vehicles for impounding, for various reasons. These will also appear as a dispatch for which you can accept. These will appear in your personal list (from what you've accepted) in the Mechanic Job List (CAPS > Interactions > Mechanic Job List). These are loaded in the same way as NPC jobs onto the flatbed truck and must be taken to the location on the waypoint (the police impound on Innocence Boulevard). Unload and impound as you also would an NPC job.
